Fundraising on Facebook

If you are looking for help developing a fundraising strategy or program using Facebook, we are the experts.

Strategy Cube built World Vision’s first ever Facebook application for fundraising in February 2008. To our knowledge it was the first charity initiated and owned fundraising application on Facebook worldwide. For more info on this program click here

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. With the launch of the Facebook Developer platform in 2007 it is now possible to build very sophisticated custom applications for Facebook that can be used for marketing and fundraising purposes.
  2. These Facebook apps can exchange data (both send and receive) with your servers and they can access all the data a user has put into their Facebook profile while the user has the app installed.
  3. The Facebook app can be built to redirect the user through to your donation processing engine on any webpage where you can securely process the gift.
  4. We have learned a great deal from our experience building the World Vision application and there are a number of key watchouts that we now know about that can help you avoid wasting time and money.
  5. The real power of Facebook is how your message can spread VIRALLY however you need to go beyond the default “Share” application to realize the full potential of viral marketing on Facebook.
  6. Many people and organizations have significant concerns about the privacy aspects of Facebook and we think with good reason. A group of Canadian lawyers recently launched a suit against Facebook alleging that it violates Canada privacy legislation. Strategy Cube operates with the highest levels of integrity and we can help you navigate these tricky waters to produce an application that respects users privacy while still allowing you to gain valuable data that you can use in your fundraising efforts.
  7. As with most marketing programs success is a result of combining excellent STRATEGY with excellent EXECUTION. If you skimp on one of those, you are likely to fail. You may be able to find a coder somewhere who will make you an inexpensive little application to run on Facebook, and a hundred people might add it. But with P&G caliber marketing strategy driving your application and a seasoned application developer who built the first successful fundraising app on the Facebook platform, you will end up with an application that attracts thousands of users, spreads virally every day, and delivers on your marketing objectives. Don’t waste your time and money.
